Breastfeeding
and Attachment Parenting Twins
This
unique and attractive site, written by Kimberly Vollweiler, is
dedicated to "parents who make the commitment to
breastfeed, and practice attachment parenting with their
twins". However, much of the information and advice is also
applicable to the tandem nursing of siblings and to attachment
parenting in general.
The site includes articles, a message board, lovely greeting
cards (many with pictures of twins), recommended books for
children and parents, a "trading post", and
well-selected links to related sites and mailing lists.
"Getting Ready" is an informative and encouraging
must-read article for those expecting multiples, including
specific advice on planning for a twin birth. The article also
answers common objections to breastfeeding multiples. "My
Story" is an account of Kimberly's pregnancy and the birth
of her twin boys. Her story provides inspiring proof that
mothers can "exclusively breastfeed and share sleep with
their twins". The message board is well-designed and easy
to use. Recent topics have included starting solid food, finding
local support groups, and extended nursing of twins. The
"Breastfeeding and Attachment Parenting Twins Art"
section includes pictures of mothers carrying and breastfeeding
twins, including sketches showing different ways to position
twins for breastfeeding. An entire page on positioning twins is
planned.
Also planned are a "breastfeeding multiples" chat
feature, a comparison of cloth vs. disposable diapers with
twins, and Kimberly's personal stories of pregnancy, birth, and
co-sleeping. This is an inspiring and supportive attachment
parenting site that is sure to grow and prosper.
